-A role-playing game (RPG) is a game in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting, or through a process of structured decision-making or character development. Actions taken within many games succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines.

There are several forms of RPG. The original form, sometimes called the tabletop RPG, is conducted through discussion, whereas in live action role-playing games (LARP) players physically perform their characters' actions. In both of these forms, an arranger called a game master (GM) usually decides on the rules and setting to be used and acts as referee, while each of the other players plays the role of a single character.

Several varieties of RPG also exist in electronic media, such as massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs). Role-playing games also include single-player offline role-playing video games in which players control a character or team who undertake quests, and may include capabilities that advance using statistical mechanics. These games often share settings and rules with tabletop RPGs, but emphasize character advancement more than collaborative storytelling.

The final form of an RPG is that of text based Role playing. This is one of the largest forms of RPG and consists of using words and paragraphs to explain and visualize character actions. This form is often played on chat clients, such as IMVU, MSN, Yahoo, or AOL. This is the base of our discussion and the leading role that we will take upon learning Proper RP Etiquette.

-T1 is a form of role playing that uses descriptiveness as well as a turn based system that allows a fun experience as well as orginization for all that decide to do this particular style. T1 is adept in paragraph (or para) posting. Using this descriptiveness as a way for others to read the story of your character and the actions taken along the way.

Note: Be Descriptive!

-Descriptiveness within posts is essential to allowing those that are around you to better understand the surroundings, feelings, dialog, dialect, and actions that your character is accomplishing. Below is an example of a do and don't of proper T1 descriptiveness.


Don't:

Excessus walked through the doors into the kingdom.

Do:

Excessus approached, the dim lights of the kingdom's hall reflecting from his grey hues.  His form was tall and slender, having no muscular visage. Though, the lack of muscle only added to the magical essence that had circled him. Having been acquainted with the family for a brief period of time, had no qualms about entering without knocking. Placing slender digits upon the door's wooden structure, he pushed. The door swung ajar, slowly at first, giving off a slight protest as it did so. Excessus had moved into the door way of the kingdom's hall. This hall was the entry to the larger, circular room that rested a few feet away. It was here that he stopped abruptly to inspect a new painting that had been placed to his left.

As you can see, Excessus the character used witin this particular post didn't just Walk through the door, instead there was a descriptive post about what he looked like, his visage, then finally topping off with an action that allowed him access into the hall. This is a brief introduction into descriptiveness. Though a longer post is usually made, this was just merely an example others can learn from. You do not need to type a book to be descriptive, though being thorough with your words is a key element to being as descriptive as you can.

To help yourself with descriptiveness, ask yourself questions like: What if I were there? What would I see?. These questions all allow you to act and type accordingly.

Not all of us are great at spelling, grammar, or punctuation. That is a given, after all, we are all different minds and with different minds come different opinions. However, third grade English is truly all that is needed for a proper post within the realms. Dotting "I's" and periods, using words that you know definitions to, or even using a dictionary or thesaurus are great methods to a proper RP post.

Put your pride aside. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using a dictionary, or a website, to better understand a word that you are trying to spell. If a word is giving you a hard time, check it on the internet, or like most computers do, use MS:Word. They have an automatic spell check system that is essential to spelling, grammatical errors, or punctuation.

-Proper Role Playing Etiquette is just that, proper. It is the base of the "Know-hows" and the foundation on which the RP community is constructed of. Basic RP Etiquette is often looked over and ignored by many of our fellow RPers, and this is a a definite way to get on someone's bad side. Below are three basic guidelines one should follow to maintain the Proper RP Etiquette.

-Guideline #1 - IT'S JUST A GAME!! Many players within the realms treat this as a job and a lifestyle. It is exactly the opposite. Role Playing was made to be fun for all who wished to enter the realms.


-Guideline #2 - RP was not intended for you to get upset over anything that may or may not happen within your particular story. If your character gets their heart broken, don't over exagerrate the situation in RL. It happens after all, so get over it and move on.


Deaths are inevitable, even here in the Realm of Realtiy. I know, it's hard to believe with some people thinking that they are Immortal and all, but you can die. Your character is no different, they can die just the same as you or me. If your character dies, do not go on a tagent and cry, do not disable your account because your favorite character was bested in some way, shape, or form. Revert back to rule #1 if this is the case, IT'S JUST A GAME!


-Guideline #3 - META-PLAYING IS INVALID! Meta-playing is a form of RP that often is found within the realms. There are three forms of Meta-playing that RPers should look out for. They are: God-Modding, Mixing ins and outs, and Metagaming. Each of the three forms of Meta-playing will be described within the thread. However, just note that Meta-Playing takes the fun from RPing and should be strictly enforced within the realms.
